Every manager with client contact has a part to play in the sales and client development process. The term ‘sales’ may have an aggressive or pushy connotation for business managers and it is important to develop a sales approach that fits with their role.

The modern manager is required to be a facilitator of relationships. He/ she must build rapport with the client, understand their needs and identify the appropriate solutions that the company can offer. The process of selling is influencing not telling, and the client must feel that they are being given the opportunity to make logical decisions based on useful and factual information.
